Sparkasse OÖ opens modernized shopping center

The 25-million project “Linzerie” was recently opened in Linz’s city center after two years of reconstruction, commissioned by Sparkasse OÖ and in cooperation with Plötzl Plötzl Arch+Ing, Nopp Innenarchitektur GmbH, and the Berlin-based dan pearlman Group and their creative agency “spring”.

Boosting Linz’s retail landscape

With 8,000 sq m of GLA, Linzerie offers ample capacities for around 30 shops and restaurants, focusing on a modern tenant mix for a high-quality shopping experience. Among the mix are international restaurants, owner-led shops, new brands, and high-ranking anchor tenants such as the grocery shop “Hofer”.

Combining past and present

Due to its architectural monument status, the Linzerie’s reconstruction process preserved historic features whilst integrating fresh elements, creating a lively contrast between tradition and modernity. Adding to the atmosphere are the light-flooded plaza in the central area of the shopping center, as well as planted wall elements, and an entrance area designed by the Art University Linz.

Shopping, events, and sustainability

Besides connecting shopping and gastronomy, the transformed outdoor section “Linzerie Garten” can be utilized for food markets (e.g. Food Market Linz by Sigi Goufas), future events, and a place for customers to relax.

Keeping pace with the times and current trends, Linzerie has future-proofed its facilities by applying renewable and energy-efficient resources and technology. This includes modern LED lights and optimized air-conditioning to follow suit with international joint efforts to reduce CO2 emissions.

Mag. Stefanie Christina Huber (chief executive of Sparkasse OÖ) says: “We are delighted to open Linzerie as the new favorite spot in Linz’s inner city together with our tenants. Linzerie gives local companies and family-led businesses the opportunity to present themselves in the heart of Linz. We are passionately working to breathe new life into the region and are happy to set an example for the future retail market.”
