Inditex: Óscar García Maceiras is the new CEO, Marta Ortega appointed as Chairwoman

Spanish fashion group Inditex (Zara, Massimo Dutti, Bershka and others) is replacing its CEO after just two and a half years. At the same time, Marta Ortega, daughter of company founder Amancio Ortega, becomes head of the Board of Directors.

CEO Carlos Crespo, who only took the helm of the company in the summer of 2019, will be replaced by Oscar Garcia Maceiras, effective immediately. And Marta Ortega will replace Pablo Isla as chair of the board of directors effective April 2022. The 37-year-old is the daughter of 85-year-old company founder Amancio Ortega.

The new organizational structure incorporates a Management Committee, made up of executives from different corporate and business areas and with a long track record in the Group.

Isla led Inditex for 17 years, first as CEO and later as Executive Chairman from the top of the Board of Directors. In the process, Isla played a key role in shaping the group’s current growth and digital strategy. Marta Ortega Pérez has worked in different areas of the Group for the last 15 years and, in particular, has led in the strengthening of Zara’s brand image and fashion proposition, an area she will continue to oversee.

Oscar Garcia Maceiras had joined the Inditex team at the beginning of the year as an advisor from Spain’s Santander Bank. The previous CEO, Crespo, will remain on the management board and, as COO, will once again be responsible for the operating business of the fashion company. Crespo had already held this role before his rise to the top of the group.
