INCREASED BREEAM RATING

In the Belgian capital, Redevco has refurbished a property in which a C&A flagship store is located. Sustainability was a top priority.

Redevco has recently renovated its “Nieuwstraat 23-29” asset in Brussels. The property has been a C&A store since 1964 and is situated on the main downtown shopping street. Redevco has cleaned up the iconic façade, which features typical concrete frames used by the Belgian architect Leon Stynen (1899–1990).

The purpose was to highlight the main entrance and to create a more transparent external appearance. Even though this property’s façade is over half a century old, it still has a modern look, which has been maintained.

In addition, the store’s GLA has been enlarged to 8,000 sq m, as a result of a better configuration of emergency exits and the stockroom. The second floor has been transformed into shopping space. C&A rolled out its latest concept at the upgraded flagship store.

Filip de Bois, Portfolio Director at Redevco Belgium, is pleased: “The renovation of Nieuwstraat has allowed us to create a modern main street shopping destination, with a cleaner, but still iconic, facade and a dome that provides an abundance of natural light inside. We have improved sustainability measures and have increased the assets’ BREEAM rating from ‘Good’ to ‘Very Good’.”
