FROM ONE TO MORE TENANTS

Redveco is redeveloping the C&A department store in the Dutch city of Eindhoven. The company is focusing on strong sustainability measures.

Redevco has launched the redevelopment works of the C&A department store located at 18 Septemberplein in the southern Dutch city of Eindhoven. The company is transforming the 9,000 sq m of retail space, currently spread over four floors, into a new and modern retail destination, which will house multiple tenants. The redevelopment works are expected to be completed in winter of 2019.

The project is being built by locally renowned Stam + De Koning, Eindhoven, and involves the demolition of the 3rd and 4th floors, the heightening of the relatively low 2nd floor, and the replacement of the 3rd floor at a higher level. The design comes from internationally renowned Dutch architect UNStudio.

The neighboring Redevco assets located at Hermanus Boexstraat 4-6 and de Demer 3 will be integrated into the main building. The shopfronts at the base of the building and the artwork above will be constructed using glass in order to provide a transparent and light appearance.

Redevco sees the renovation as an opportunity to implement sustainability measures and is striving for BREEAM Excellent certification. Sustainability measures to be taken entail the installation of solar panels, greenery on the roof, and the use of energy efficient escalators and elevators, making the building ‘full electric’.

During the construction works, the C&A store will remain open. This is an additional challenge, which will require the tenant to internally relocate several times throughout the course of the project. The reopening of the final C&A store is planned for July 2019.

Robert Bakker, Project Manager Redevco The Netherlands, explained: “Our redevelopment in Eindhoven is upgrading our asset to meet the demands of the modern-day retailer. We will also focus on strong sustainability measures, while, at the same time, creating a very exciting design, but still staying true to the building’s iconic features.”
