DIY is trendy: “Kreativmarkt Hamburg” opens at Quarree Wandsbek

Even though many things are changing in times of corona, the renovation of Quarree Wandsbek in Hamburg continues and even big stores with more than 800 sq m have reopened. Their product ranges already expanded, as “Kreativmarkt Hamburg” signed its new lease agreement in the middle of the crisis.

“Kreativmarkt Hamburg” will open at Quarree Wandsbek on September 21, 2020. On its 500 sq m, this market will provide everything one needs for a wide range of creative and trendy hobbies. From decorations, paper goods, paints, and art supplies to textiles and handicrafts, jewelry as well as literature on related topics and everything else one could possibly need, will be widely available. Themed workshops are also planned. With its specific product range, Kreativmarkt Hamburg reinforces Quarree’s offer and, as a regional retailer, also brings more individuality to the center.

Martin Burhenne, Managing Director of Kreativmarkt Hamburg says: “DIY and creative design have been growing trends for years. Therefore, we are glad to be represented at such a central, popular, and highly frequented location like Quarree with our wide product range, our experience, and our trained competent staff. Despite corona, life will go on and we are convinced that we will have a successful launch in autumn.” Frank Klüter, Center Manager at Quarree Wandsbek, adds: “The current situation is a challenge for everybody. However, we are optimistic about the future. Our new tenant Kreativmarkt Hamburg is a great addition for our younger customers and families and will complement our offer perfectly. An individual shop that is operated with so much passion will certainly enrich Quarree. Renovation works continued at Quarree during the shutdown, therefore almost all stores have already reopened while complying with the required precautions. We are very happy that our tenants still feel supported by Quarree’s optimistic atmosphere.”

The existing tenants believe in this location and already have secured their retail space at Quarree Wandsbek for the upcoming years. Five of its long-term tenants–Depot, Christ, the ice cream parlor Giovanni L., Tchibo, and Douglas–have renewed their lease agreements in March 2020; they all will modernize their store design, Tchibo has already refurbished its store. Further tenants from the food sector have already been busy: Lindner and Mediterrana have redesigned their fresh-food area on the ground floor. Ristorante Da Franco–the popular Italian restaurant at Quarree–invested in an entirely new restaurant design and adapted as well as expanded its offer. Many others are now doing the same. After all: “Even this crisis will pass. People will always appreciate competent and personal support in stores, just as much as a haptic and direct shopping experience,” Frank Klüter strongly believes.

Delicacies of the finest quality @Chicken Crime Department Düsseldorf

During my stroll through Düsseldorf's streets, a store immediately caught my eye, both delightful and manageable, but as I said, impossible to miss: the Chicken Crime Department at Ackerstrasse 142 in the creative district of Flingern.

“Consumer Trends – Do You Know the Latest Ones?”

The events of the last few years, increased transparency in general, and last but not least, technology and globalization have resulted in a new kind of customer. These new customers are both mature and competent. Retailers would do well to regard them as such.

Togetherness: A Silver Lining for Retail Spaces

In order to become the “center of the community”, retail spaces have to offer public services that people want and need, as well as opportunities for people to come together and build community. That entails, among other things, rethinking the tenant mix to generate footfall as well as creating more events and activities that attract people.
