MEC leases 45,000m² in the first half of 2021

Kaufland moves to Breisgau Center Freiburg.

Even in the ongoing Corona crisis, the retail real estate manager MEC has concluded numerous new and follow-up leases with a total area of 45,000m² in the past half year. The majority of the leases relate to the local supply sector. Other sectors include consumer electronics, DIY, non-food discounters, sporting goods and shoes.

Christian Thiele, MEC Head of Leasing Management, sees the reasons for the company’s success in its proactive approach and close cooperation with all parties involved: “By developing concepts at an early stage and holding intensive discussions with our clients and retail partners, we are able to actively shape changes in our sector. We are very pleased to welcome Kaufland, a strong anchor, to the Breisgau Center in Freiburg.”

The sale of Real means that many of the hypermarkets will be taken over by other operators. This creates opportunities to make the retail locations future-proof for the owners: “This requires comprehensive re-letting and utilization concepts,” says Thiele. After all, the Real spaces are not always taken over in their entirety by the new hypermarket operators. He adds, “Close teamwork with our clients and interdisciplinary collaboration are the keys to successful repositioning.”
