centre:mk kick starts business in Milton Keynes

centre:mk, one of the UK’s top 10 shopping centres, yesterday reunited shoppers with their favourite brands as over 80 stores re-opened including Primark, Next and TK Maxx.

Consumers across the country flocked to the shops, and average transaction values at centre:mk were four times higher than pre-covid levels, as footfall soared on the first day back. Shoppers were asked to play their part and abide by the social distancing measures that remain, including using the hand sanitising stations, following a one-way system in each section of the centre, and waiting when required to do so in designated areas.

The measures put in place and the public’s willingness to follow them meant centre:mk was able to provide a welcoming and positive experienced for all those that venturered out.  The design of the destination, its 2.5km of wide malls, and 18 exterior doors all helped shoppers return safely and in confidence.

Centre Director, Kevin Duffy, commented: “We have missed so many of our guests over the past few weeks and are so pleased to welcome them back.  As a centre, we believe ‘playing your part’ is key. We had made extensive plans for our shoppers to be able to return confidently and it has paid off.  Footall was even better than expected and while we have had some queues for our most popular brands, because we have such wide, spacious malls and large stores, there is room for everyone to shop safely.

“Everyone is aware it is going to take some time to readjust and rebuild, but early indications are that centre:mk will thrive again.”

Over 80 stores re-opened on Monday with more following each day, including John Lewis which is due to reopen soon.
